Breastfeeding has been a pretty popular subject for the past year or so; a lot of people think that breastfeeding in public is taboo and that it shouldn’t be done. What a lot of people are not fitting into their equation is that breasts are for breastfeeding!
Why is it that you can walk through a shopping mall and see posters of half-naked women and nobody ever says anything about it? But if you sit on a bench and feed your baby with a blanket over you, it is an outrage? One breastfeeding mom was fed up with it and did something hilarious!
It all started with a woman (who is currently anonymous) noticed another woman breastfeeding her baby in a public park in Dartford, Kent. Offended that she would dare to do this in front of her child (Who was presumably bottle fed for reasons of modesty) and husband (who is unable to control his urges), she asked the woman to leave the park. Never mind that it is actually against UK law to ask a breastfeeding woman to leave a public place.
The mother then told the interloper to “fuck off” and squirted milk in her direction. The woman then went and posted a status on the “Dartford Gossip” community Facebook Page:
“To the lady Dartford park who thought it was appropriate to breastfeed her baby whilst my child and very easily distracted husband sat nearby. I don’t think it was necessary for you to react the way you did just because I asked you to go somewhere private, telling me to fuck off and squirting me with your boobs was incredibly uncalled for. I hope you are ashamed of yourself!”
While she expected people to jump to her cause and defend here, what happened was quite the opposite:
“Her reaction is not on but why shouldn’t she feed her baby in public? I would have had a few choice words for you if you had asked me to go elsewhere. There is something wrong with people who think seeing someone breastfeeding is inappropriate.”
“You should be ashamed of yourself! It’s hard enough to breastfeed a baby let alone be judged for it in public! If I had to breastfeed my 3-month-old in public I would permanently have my tits out! Your easily distracted husband clearly hasn’t seen a pair of tits in a while! Perhaps next time you’re out you should go and eat your dinner in the toilets…….I think not!”
“There’s only one person here making a right tit of themselves and it’s not the lady doing the most natural thing in the world!!!”
Being a mother can be really hard, in ways the other people do not expect. A lot of moms had no idea how bad the backlash would be against them breastfeeding their babies in a public place, which is a right that they have. Babies need to be fed, and when nature calls you must respond. It is time for people to stop criticizing moms and even interrupting them to ask them to find another place to go. If something offends you that badly, perhaps you should be the one to remove yourself from the equation.
