A psychology study, published online in Evolution and Human Behaviour, reveals that men prefer their women with curves, however not for the reasons you may think!
The study, conducted at the University of Texas, presented a group of 100 men of varying ages with several women who had been shown to be attractive, studying which women the men identified as the most attractive of the group. These women were all nearly the same in their physical makeup with only one variation, the back-to-buttock curve. The results of the study determined the optimal angle of the lumbar curvature in women is 45.5 degrees.
Furthermore, to ensure that this wasn’t simply due to the size of the butt, the researches conducted a second experiment to determine whether their attraction was to he back-to-buttock angle, or simply an attraction to larger butts. The second test confirmed, the men’s dominant attraction was based on the back-to-buttock angle.
When asked about the reasoning behind this focus, the researchers theorized that it would stem back to a subconscious attraction to women who would be able to carry a pregnancy successfully. Research David Lewis stated, “These women would have been more effective at foraging during pregnancy and less likely to suffer spinal injuries. In turn, men who preferred these women would have had mates who were better able to provide for fetus and offspring, and who would have been able to carry out multiple pregnancies without injury.”
Lewis went on to say, “Beauty is not entirely arbitrary or in the eyes of the beholder as many in mainstream social science believe, but rather has a coherent adaptive logic.”
