Real soulmate love is not what you think it is. It is not a prince in shining armor coming to save you from a dragon or rescue you from your tower, it is raw, challenging, and nothing like you could ever imagine.

When I was a young girl, I thought that love was supposed to be how it is in fairytales. Sweet, romantic, and endless happiness but it isn’t. Love is hard, and it isn’t always flowers and chocolates, sometimes it is fighting all night and arguing over something you really don’t care about or staying up just to take care of each other. It can be the best thing and the worst thing all at the same time.

Soulmate love and the love we watch on television or read about in books is not the same thing; the love we crave is nothing like our fantasies. It is something we don’t know we need, but we do. It is not having control over someone or finishing each other’s sentences. It is bursts of wonderfulness and pushing each other to be the best people we can be. It is sitting in our pajamas watching old movies, and working our asses off just to get by when times are tough.

Soulmate love is full of ups and downs, but it is beyond rewarding. It is finding someone you want to build your life with, someone you don’t mind standing by when things are at rock bottom, and someone you won’t abandon.

Soulmate love is two people working together to find out what is best for them as a couple. They journey through this life together maintaining the courage and confidence to live their lives for themselves.

We don’t get to choose our soulmate, and have no control over when we meet him or her. Sometimes when our soulmate comes into our lives we aren’t ready yet and it can tear our heart from our chest but in the end, we do what is best, we come back for more. Soulmate love can be painful and unpleasant sometimes, but like with all parts of life you get the good with the bad.

Soulmate love is not a guaranteed happy ending, it is knowing the risks and choosing to take them. It is a journey all in itself and definitely one worth taking. Living your life with a soulmate is one of the best decisions you will ever make. It will blossom you into someone you never thought you could be.
